The workshop begins with Susan Crawford (The Pocket Wife: A Novel, The Other Widow) on: How to write your villain. After lunch, VM Burns (Dog Club Mysteries, Mystery Bookshop Mysteries, RJ Franklin Mysteries, and others) will discuss the Elements of a mystery: timing, tropes, and reader expectations. Panel discussions: 1. How To Write a Killer Sleuth with authors Jeff Shaw (Lieutenant Trufant, LeAnn and the Clean Man), Matthew Smith (Twentymile), Cathy Tully (Chirocozy Series, Disco, Disguises and Deception), and Linda Sands (Cargo Series, 3 Women Walk into a Bar). 2. Pace and Building Suspense with authors Sharon Marchisello (Secrets of the Galapagos, Going Home), Debra Goldstein (Sarah Blair cozy mystery series, Five Belles Too Many), Liz Lazarus (Free of Malice, Plea for Justice, Shades of Silence), and Katherine Nichols (Sisters Forever series, Trust Issues, The Unreliables). |
